The party was formed by previous ABC Vancouver city councillor, Rebecca Bligh, after she was ejected from the party's caucus in 2025 shortly after publicly criticizing council's plan to freeze supportive housing in the city.[2]

Still serving as a city councillor and sitting president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities,[3] Bligh is running as Vote Vancouver's mayoral candidate in the 2026 Vancouver municipal elections. Bligh believes in "cross-partisan collaboration and policy-making", putting herself forward as a progressive pragmatist.[4] The party's platform takes aim at Ken Sim including promises to fix the city's permit system, building affordable housing, and "restore accountability to City Hall."[5]
