Walid Sarhan (born 20 November 1954, Amman, Jordan) is a Jordanian consultant psychiatrist, Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych), International Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (IDFAPA), and Honorary Member of the World Psychiatric Association.[1]

Education
Sarhan graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in 1979.[2] In 1985, he obtained Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in London, followed by Fellowship (FRCPsych) in 1996.[3] In 2022, he completed a Master's degree in Psychopharmacology from the Neuroscience Education Institute, USA.
Career
Sarhan served as Consultant Psychiatrist and Academic Director of the National Centre for Mental Health in Fuheis, Jordan (1985–1986), where he established a psychiatric residency training programme accredited by the Jordan Medical Council.[4] In 1996, he founded Al-Rashid Hospital for Psychiatry and Addiction in Amman, serving as its Director General until 2005.[5] Since 2024, he has chaired the technical committee of the first hybrid psychiatry residency programme for northwest Syria, supported by the European Union.

- King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein Medal of Excellence, First Class, Independence Day 2024.[7]

- International Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (IDFAPA) — first Jordanian psychiatrist to receive this honour.[8]

Editorial work
Sarhan served as Editor-in-Chief of the Arab Journal of Psychiatry (2010–2022)[9] and as Associate Editor of International Psychiatry, published by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (2011–2014).
Publications
Sarhan authored a series of Arabic books titled Sulukiyyat (Behaviours), covering topics including schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, and forensic psychiatry.[10] He also translated the Oxford Handbook of Psychiatry into Arabic.
