William Ward Hager is a mathematician and distinguished professor at the University of Florida (UF) who researches numerical analysis and optimization.

Education
Hager received his bachelors degree from Harvey Mudd College in 1970 and his masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) the following year. His Ph.D, also from MIT, was completed in 1974 under supervisor Sanjoy Kumar Mitter.[1]
Career
In his early career, Hager worked at the University of South Florida, Carnegie Mellon University, and Pennsylvania State University before arriving at UF in 1988. In 2008, Hager was awarded the University of Florida Research Foundation Professorship.[2]
