As a producer, López Peña has been credited on releases by artists signed to Virgin Music México (part of Universal Music Group) and distributed through ADA Latin (Warner Music Group).[3]

Career

Early career and Vibras TMC

López Peña co-founded Vibras The Music Company in 2014 alongside Costa Rican musicians Pranz and Maul, operating initially under the artist name Workaholix.[1] He served as the company's head of music production from its founding.[1] La Nación, Costa Rica's newspaper of record, described him as "Gabo López, encargado de producción musical de Vibras" and named "Maul, Pranz y Workaholix, productores y fundadores de Vibras" in a 2017 profile of the label.[1]

In 2018, López Peña shortened his artist name from Workaholix to Worka.

Échelé Miel

López Peña is a co-founder and member of Échelé Miel, a Costa Rican electronic music group. The group was featured on "One Night", a single by artist Avi released through Vibras TMC in 2017. Diario Co Latino reported that the song reached number six on the national chart of most-played Costa Rican songs and number one in the Anglo category for the June 2017 reporting period.[2]

Production work

Under the name Worka, López Peña has produced releases for multiple Costa Rican and Latin American artists.

His work for singer-songwriter Fátima Pinto is the most extensively documented. La Nación reported that he produced her debut single "Feel Something" under the byline "Gabriel López, de Vibras"; the track entered national radio stations in Costa Rica and accumulated over 100,000 Spotify streams within weeks of its 2017 release.[4] He co-produced her debut single for Virgin Music México, "Algo más", following her signing to Universal Music Group in 2021. La Nación credited "la producción de Gabo López" on the release.[5]

In 2021, Teletica, one of Costa Rica's primary broadcast networks, covered the release of the single "Magic" by artist Avi, explicitly naming "Worka (productor musical)" and noting it was produced at Vibras The Music Company.[6]

In 2022, Teletica reported on the release of "Marimba" by singer Gimario, stating that the music was created by "Worka & More" and that the music video was "producido en Paraíso de Cartago por Worka y De Jesus Films", crediting López Peña as both music producer and video director.[7]

El Carabobeño, a Venezuelan newspaper, identified him as "Gabriel López, conocido como Worka" in a 2021 profile of Gerez, a Venezuelan-Costa Rican producer who joined Vibras TMC and worked under López Peña's direction.[8]

Mi vida depende de esto (2023–2024)

Between 2023 and 2024, Worka produced and released a project called Mi vida depende de esto ("My Life Depends on This"), comprising approximately 100 songs released over the course of 100 days, featuring artists both inside and outside the Vibras TMC catalog.

Diario Extra, a Costa Rican national newspaper, published an interview with artist Jeyvez (Javier Cisneros) referencing the project, identifying López Peña as "el productor musical y artista Gabriel López, mejor conocido como Worka." López is quoted directly in the article: "Yo dejo que él haga lo que se le ocurra y yo hago lo mío, todo es cuestión de química." The same article confirmed that the album featured tracks from artists within and beyond the Vibras TMC roster, described by López as "aproximadamente 100 temas de artistas diferentes".[9]

Solo discography

As a recording artist, Worka releases electronic music distributed through ADA Latin. His catalog spans genres including electronic, breakbeat, reggaetón, and indie pop.

Musical style

As a producer, López Peña works across a range of genres, incorporating elements of tropical house, electronic production, Latin urban, and indie pop.
