Notability / WP:WITHIN?

Hi. Per my AfC comment, as WP:NORG (and WP:NGO) expect that the notability of local non-profit orgs be established through significant coverage in "reliable independent sources outside the organization's local area", and as all the given sources are local/regional, I don't see how this org has independent notability. Also, as discussed in WP:BRANCH, "As a general rule, the individual chapters of national and international organizations are usually not considered notable enough to warrant a separate article". Given that the subject org is, per its own website, "a branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign", would its activities not be better covered WP:WITHIN the existing Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign article? How is a standalone title justified? Surely, from a reader's perspective, it's better to cover this branch's activities in context? Guliolopez (talk) 23:34, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Your suggestion that coverage listed is local/regional, however a quick search shows national coverage including Irish Times, Irish Independent, RTE and The Journal, some of these publications have international readership and reach. Examples below, many other articles exist.

Also the edit note for removing the word "many" that the sources in the article only cover 2 events is incorrect, maybe check again. One of the sources was talking about "12 rallies in as many weeks" and coverage is listed for events from 2021 to 2025 EcoLeftie (talk) 14:07, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for the note. RE:
  • "removing the word "many" [..] is incorrect [..] One of the sources was talking about "12 rallies in as many weeks"". Thanks. I must have overlooked that. In all honesty though I'm not sure that "many" adds much. As its a bit vague/boostery. The current proposed wording, "organised rallies and protests, over several years", would seem to convey that there were more than a few over more than a short period.
  • "a quick search shows national coverage". My comment, as framed, was about the coverage in the draft. If there is other/national coverage then great. But (a) most would seem to be about the protests rather than the org and (b) doesn't really address the point about WP:BRANCH. Which is that, among other things, we should "Aim for one good article" and not multiple stubs [on all "chapters, divisions [..] and other sub-units of notable organizations"].
In the context of WP:BRANCH, I personally don't understand why we'd create this title - when Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign is sitting there. As a stub. Of <200 words. Practically crying out for content about the activities of the Cork branch. Supportable, as noted, by multiple/reliable (national) sources about those activities...
Anyway. Just my 2x cents. For whatever they are worth... Guliolopez (talk) 15:03, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply and acknowledgement of the points made.
I agree that the IPSC page is crying out for editing. I do think that the Cork branch works independently and is in many ways a separate organisation deserving of it's own coverage as is evident from the coverage listed. EcoLeftie (talk) 15:32, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
Hi. Are there any sources which state that it "works independently and is in many ways a separate organisation"?
I ask because one of the two websites (corkpalestine.ie), which appears to represent the org, states (in multiple places) that it is a "branch" of the IPSC. Hence why I refer to WP:BRANCH.
The other of the two websites (cpsc.ie), which appears to represent an org of the same/similar name, suggests (in its tone and content) that it is "independent". While suggesting that it is asserting this independence on a website (albeit not seemingly updated since early 2024) because of a conflict, confusion or "split" with an org of the same/similar name.
From what I can tell, seemingly arising from this issue, at least two different people have formed at least three different companies/bodies corporate. With different establishment names, dates and addresses.
Personally I'd question whether all the coverage all relates to the same org. Or whether the sources are sufficiently clear (and dealing with the subject org in sufficient depth) to warrant a standalone article. Given that WP:PIA applies to titles like this, I'm not sure that much more than a few paras in the IPSC article is worthwhile. Guliolopez (talk) 17:24, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
