Durga Charan Ranbir is an Indian classical dancer and choreographer, known for his contribution to the field of Odissi dance. He is recognised for preserving the traditional elements of the dance form while also training numerous students through his institution and performances across India and abroad. In 2025, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, for his contribution to the arts.[1][2][3][4][5]
Durga Charan Ranbir has played a significant role in popularising Odissi, one of the eight classical dance forms of India. As a performer, choreographer, and teacher, he has worked towards maintaining the classical purity of Odissi while exploring creative choreography grounded in tradition. He has participated in prestigious dance festivals, including the International Odissi Dance Festival and Guru Pranam Utsav.[6][7]
He is also known for mentoring young dancers and choreographing productions that have been performed at national and international platforms. Ranbir has received multiple accolades for his contributions to Indian classical arts, including the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award in 2014.[8]
