History
The company has been headquartered in Salach since 1969. It was founded in 1867 in Bautzen as the Eisengießerei und Maschinenfabrik AG (iron foundry and machine factory). In 1952 the company was re-established in Eislingen an der Fils and initially produced lathes and special-purpose machines.
By introducing the world's first vertical lathe with a pick-up spindle in 1992, the company gained international recognition. The conventional lathe concept was turned upside down: the tool carriers remain fixed while the main spindle carrying the workpiece can move in all axis directions. Through further development of this machine type and the integration of various technologies from turning, milling, drilling, grinding, gear hobbing and laser welding under one roof, the EMAG Group is among the world's leading manufacturers of vertical lathes. The machines and flexible manufacturing systems process disc-shaped, shaft-shaped and cubic workpieces.
In 2009 the company was the world market leader in the production of pick-up lathes.[2] The EMAG Group's total revenue in 2022 amounted to €472.7 million with an export share of around 76%.[1]
In addition to 2 production companies and 4 technology companies, EMAG also operates 34 sales companies and branches worldwide.[2] In 2022 the company employed an average of 2,493 people worldwide.[1]
