El Muerto (DC Comics)

Pablo Valdez, once a young man in Mexico City who idolized Superman, died while trying to save a young girl from a hostage situation in a crumbling building. He was later resurrected through mysticism and became an undead hero, adopting the persona of El Muerto, dressed in an outfit reminiscent of hanging victims. In his new incarnation, he stopped idolizing Superman and began to harbor resentment, blaming him for not being present to prevent his death. El Muerto also criticized Superman for not helping Mexico combat street crime and decided to take matters into his own hands. He teamed up with fellow heroes Acrata and Iman to defend Mexico City against the sorcerer Duran. Eventually, El Muerto met The Man of Steel when a girl used her occult energies to destroy half of downtown Mexico City. Superman arrived to give the three superheroes aid, but his vulnerability to magic meant that all four heroes had to unite to stop the supernatural menace. El Muerto has since reconciled with his former hero and continues to patrol the streets of Mexico City.^[1]

El Muerto was present alongside other DC mystical figures at Stonehenge in Infinite Crisis #6.
