Gavirate is a comune (municipality) in the province of Varese, in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northwest of Milan and about 10 kilometres (6 mi) northwest of Varese. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 9,438 and an area of 13.3 square kilometres (5.1 mi2).[3]
