George Gibbs (January 7, 1776 – August 6, 1833) was an American mineralogist and mineral collector. The mineral gibbsite is named after him.[1]

George Gibbs was born in Newport, Rhode Island, the son of wealthy merchant George Gibbs and Mary (née Channing) Gibbs.
