Gypsy Taub (born Oxana Chornenky[1]) is a Russian American activist in the San Francisco public nudity movement.[2][3]

Taub was raised in Moscow and went by the nickname Olessia, which means "Forest Girl".[1] Her father was a physicist and inventor, and her mother was a French teacher and fashion designer.[4] Taub grew up with a brother and a sister.[4]

In the fall of 1988, when Taub was 19, she moved to Boston to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her family immigrated to Boston the following year.[4] When she was 23, she attended the City College of San Francisco as a pre-med student.[4] She dropped out after 18 months.[4]
