Career

Born in Sivas, Koç studied at Selçuk University.[4] He competed for Amasya Şeker Spor.[1]

Among his early international results, Koç won the Grand Prix of Germany in Leipzig in 2002 in the 120 kg freestyle class, and later won the Military World Championship title in Istanbul in 2003. He also took silver at the same military championship event in Baku in 2006 and was a silver medalist at the European Junior Championships in Sofia in 2000.[3]

His breakthrough at senior multi-sport level came at the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almería, where he defeated France's Vincent Aka-Akesse in the men's freestyle 96 kg final to win the gold medal.[5] Later that year, at the 2005 Summer Universiade in İzmir, he won the silver medal in the same weight class.[1][4]

In 2008, Koç won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 96 kg event at the 2008 European Wrestling Championships in Tampere.[3] He represented Turkey later that year at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he finished eighth. He defeated Germany's Stefan Kehrer in the opening round before losing in the quarter-finals to Russia's Shirvani Muradov. After Muradov reached the final, Koç entered the repechage, where he was eliminated by Ukraine's Georgii Tibilov.[6][1]
