The element holders

There are twelve element holders all together, representing the eight young men who appeared with Princess Astraea to fight Yggdrasil in "the time of darkness". Adam and Fang have been charged with gathering together the bead holders for some reason by Zhuqiao. So far all the element holders have five things in common; they all have a element, a scar mark somewhere on their bodies, "animal" at the beginning of their last names, they've all died and come back to life, and they all have a guardian or ability that is keeping them alive.

Adam Lionheart (アダム　ライオンハート, Adamu Raionhato)

Voiced by: Soichiro Hoshi (Japanese); Grant George (English)

An 18-year-old boy who is the holder of the "Metal" (金) element. Nicknamed 'Addy' by Qinglong, he is one of the three survivors of the destruction of Bestial Village. He holds the living sword Regulus in his right arm, along with a scar birthmark. Because of a curse set by harboring Regulus within his body, he is still in his 13-year-old state. Five years before the start of the story, Adam was a very weak and ill child who was made to dress and act like a girl by his parents because they heard doing so would help him grow. Young Adam was told that he would not live into adulthood. He still openly welcomed Fang and Remi into his home and treated the two abandoned children as brother and sister. Adam even commented that he and Fang are brothers when he sees Fang's scar mark. Though mentally 18, he does tend to act like his status age, something Fang is constantly teasing and lecturing him about. He often has outbursts of emotion, is very energetic and loud yet has a very kind, naïve, and loving nature. Because of this many people are attracted to him, including spirits and humans. He easily makes friends with many people, is usually straight forward, talking or taking action without thinking, which typically concludes with a scolding from Fang. He seems quite perplexed by the fact that Sage has shown a romantic interest in him, again pointing to his age and naivety. He cares deeply for those around him, to such an extent that he forced Fang to continue living after they were fatally injured five years ago. Although his exterior personality is happy and optimistic, he reveals himself to be quite burdened and knowledgeable of the events taking place around him; this is often seen when his thoughts travel to his immortality. He is shown to have a deep fear of the possibility of living alone one day. Adam loves meat, and he is petrified of the living dead and insects, and is usually seen running away or clinging to Fang in fear when either appear. Despite his phobias, when he needs to fight he shows great bravery and is calmer, especially with Regulus in hand. Adam often wears a blue and white long coat with the church insignia on the back and has short blue hair and bluish cyan eyes. He is revealed to be the younger half brother of Zhuqiao Hiehuo.

Fang Wolfgang (ファング ヴォルフガング, Fangu Vorufugangu)

The holder of the Earth (土) bead. He is another of the three survivors, along with Adam and Remi. He can shape shift into the dog Dole, who had been Adam's loyal pet, and has a scar mark on the back of his neck. He treats Adam and Remi like family, as he does not have any relatives. He is very strict on safety and tends to be the calm and composed one to Adam's brash and compulsive behavior. He is also very protective of Adam and often volunteers to pay the prices for his deeds, as seen when he was willing to pay the price of having his arm cut off in order to protect Adam when he trespassed into Hong Mei's house. He is constantly by Adam's side and tends to spend half his time bailing him out of trouble. A mysterious man who looks identical to him, Yaldabaoth (who was referred to as Fang's 'shadow' by Regulus) is said to be the other half of Fang's soul. He has a very kind and gentle personality, and is a very hard worker. He would not hesitate even to kill someone if it were for Adam's benefit. When he was a child, Mayor Lionheart of Bestial, Adam's father, found him and his mother collapsed by the road. They were taken in, but his mother died, and he lost all his memories of what happened before then. Fang dresses in white attire that is similar to a school uniform and has long white hair and red eyes. In chapter 24, he lost his sense of pain, use of his left hand and sight in his left eye, and is in a comatose state. In chapter 13 of season 2, he wakes out of his coma due to Adam's wish for the element to choose him again.

Sage Simian (セイジ シミアン, Seiji Shimian)

Holder of the Fire（火）element. He is a captain of the Imperial Military Police. Three years ago, he and his foster brother, Ralph, were sent on assignment to the north and were attacked by demons. As a result of the incident, he can turn into a fire demon that devours supernatural beings. He and Ralph's sister Ayla were lovers before he left and she had committed suicide when he returned because she was pregnant by another man. This caused much grief to Sage and, as a result, he tried to commit suicide as well. However, he failed each and every time due to his now-demonic body. He has a scar mark on his right cheek. He has feelings for Adam because he believes Adam is someone that won't die easily unlike Ayla, and he doesn't care if Adam is male. Sage is a quiet person who often seems to give very little care to details. As a Captain of the Imperial Military Police, Sage is seen to take his work very seriously. He demonstrate an ability to keep his thoughts and emotions in check which allows him to be very efficient at his job.

Ralph Falk (レイフ ファルク, Reifu Faruku)

Holder of the Lightning (雷) element. He works at an inn owned by his family. He was a foot soldier who accompanied Sage on a mission in a Northern village. The mission took a turn for the worse when he and Sage were attacked by man-eating demons, but he found after the incident that he could transform into a lightning demon at will. Like Sage, his wounds heal very easily. He has a scar mark on his lower back. Ralph is a very excitable person, which is shown when Sage says that Adam is "his type". He is also very stubborn and cares deeply for those around him, constantly trying to get Sage out of confinement.

Louise Sharkbite (ルイス　シャクバイト, Ruisu Shakubaito)

Holder of the Water (水) element. A traveling dancer who accompanies Max. Two years before the start of the series, Yaldabaoth destroyed her village, killed her family, and carved out her heart, but Louise had refused to die, a fact that fascinated the demon prince Max. When she first met Fang, she attacked him, thinking he was the person who attacked her village. She is masculine in appearance, but is an adept swordsman, and is quite strong. She has a scar mark on her chest. She possesses a sword named Riptide, which her father entrusted to her.

Walter Jackrow (ワルタ　ジャックロウ, Waruta Jakkuro)

Voiced by: Tokuyoshi Kawashima (Japanese); Kirk Thornton (English)

Holder of the Light (光) element. A man who was saved from freezing to death by the light spirit, Licht, He is searching for his long lost sister, Lu, who was separated from him when they were both young about ten years after their parents had died. He has a scar mark. He first met Adam and Fang on the train when he was searching for his sister, where Adam recognized Licht. He tends to be freaked out over anything supernatural like Regulus coming out of Adam's arm, and is often told by the other characters that he has the worst luck. When he and Lu were separated, he promised her to come back and find her eventually, and she gave him her hair pin. Walter has white hair because of a medicine he used to take when he was a child, meant to help him develop an immunity to various drugs. He is often seen wearing a white trench coat and glasses.

Leil Jagannath (レイル ジャガンアト, Reiru Jagannato)

Holder of the Air (空) element. The adopted son of an alchemist; he was given to his current family by his real father, who was looking for an easy way to get money by selling his son in return for tools he could sell. Leil is also an Alchemist and wished to follow in his adopted father's footsteps, even when he admits that he will never be as good as his adopted father. After his adopted father had died, his real father had come looking for him so that he could make more tools to sell, and when Leil refused, his father killed him. Leil was saved by Abby, his deceased pet bird that had come back to protect him as a spirit. It is later revealed that Abby had also put up a spirit barrier to keep the now tainted spirit of Leil's adopted father from entering. He has a younger sister named Wendy. He eventually receives a third eye on his forehead that sees and exterminates spirits, which was a gift from his late bird, Abby.

Soran Heinlein (ソラン ハインライン, Soran Hainrain)

Holder of the Ice (冰) element. A young boy around 12 years of age. When he was 6, his mother attempted to kill him, but he was saved by Weiss, a swan who later took care of him and eventually entrusted half of his life to the boy. After 10 years, he was found by Deen, who then left him under his grandmother's care. Because he spent 10 years as a swan child, he stopped aging until his rescue by Deen, making him chronologically 22 years old. He meets Adam and Fang during their investigation of a spirit child's sudden return, and is later taken back by Weiss's brother Bianco. It is also revealed by Bianco that Soran is actually Weiss's son, making him half swan. During Yaldabaoth's attack on their home, Soran discovers his element, which had been hidden in his body by Weiss. Sent away to safety by Bianco after healing the boy with half of his life, Soran eventually learns to use his swan wings to help Adam put out a forest fire. Afterwards, he decides to join Adam and Fang on their way back to the Imperial Capital. He has a scar mark on his left arm.

Sanaka Yamori (矢守　さなか, Yamori Sanaka)

Holder of the Wood(木) element. A young kunoichi who is fiercely loyal to her master and lover, Yoshimitsu, who has an interest in her. When she was 10, she starved and collapsed in the forest of Sekigan, to where she was found by Yoshimitsu, who takes her to Ikaruga Castle, raises her and grooms her as a warrior. He even gives her his pet gecko Kusanagi as a gift, an symbol of his love for her. Sanaka is very confident and calm, but can be clumsy and lazy if she thinks about love or trips on something. She attempted to kill Fang, but is stopped by Adam. When Yoshimitsu learns about her failure, he attempts to execute her publicly, however, Adam and the element holders arrive to save her from execution. After Yoshimitsu's retirement, She joins the group.

Fezarl Orthros (フェザール　オルトロス, Fezāru Orutorosu)

Voiced by: Toru Okawa (Japanese); Jamieson Price (English)

Holder of the Decay (減) element. A hunter in Dark River and former captain of the Shade Cloak Squad, he is a brave man known for his great leadership and calculations. After the deaths of his squad members, he retires and assigns Geist as commander of the Shadow Cloak Squad. He begins hunting down wild animals to ensure his comrade's survival, because it is the only way to become a true leader. When Yaldabaoth attacks Dark River, Fezarl's Rifle, Freiheit, awakens his true form and defeats Yaldabaoth. He Joins Adam and the others on their journey.

Geist Crow (ガイスト　クロウ, Gaisuto Kurou)

Voiced by: Koichi Tochika (Japanese); Johnny Yong Bosch (English)

Holder of the Darkness(闇) element. A gifted leader of the Shade cloak squad, who is cold and hostile towards his surbordinates, Lilac and Alva. Despite his coldness, he is kind and caring, as he helps Corvo from Billy. He refuses to join the element holders on their quest to stop Yaldabaoth. When they go to Abyss Mountain, Lilac and Alva are attacked by Billy, enraging Geist, who attacks him. He is forced to leave Lilac and Alva behind to die, who believes that they are his family. He officially joins the element holder after Element Merging with Corvo.

Four Sacred Beast Gods

The Four Sacred Beast Gods (四星獣神, Shiseijūshin) are the bird, the dragon, the tiger, and the tortoise. The wielders of the Sacred Beasts are very powerful and tend to be feared, which is why the Church chose to take them in; so that they could control them. The wielders also tend to be ostracized by their families, even being called disgraces, so they are usually alone except for each other. They live in a huge mansion, which they end up sharing with Shino and Sosuke.

Zhuqiao Hiehuo (赤火 朱雀, Sekka Suzaku)

Voiced by: Hideo Ishikawa (Japanese); Doug Stone (English)

One of the members of the "Four Sacred Beast Gods", he materializes his spirit in form of an Otori (a giant red bird) named Yaoyu. He is the one who saved Adam, Fang, and Remi during the destruction of Bestial Village. He asks Fang and Adam to find the other element holders for an unknown purpose. Zhuqiao volunteered to be Adam's guardian. It was hinted that he is related to Shino, later revealed to be Shino's older half brother. It is also hinted that he may have known Shino before the incident and was the one who gave Murasame to Shino in order to save his life.

Qinglong Qingguang (青光 青龍, Shōko Seiryu)

Voiced by: Kosuke Toriumi (Japanese); Tony Oliver (English)

One of the members of the "Four Sacred Beast Gods", he is capable of summoning five dragons to use them as servants or fighters. He seems to have feelings for Remi, as in chapter 4, he told his older brother that he didn't care about his family, or about what his brother did, but that by injuring Remi's face he had crossed the line. He is constantly teasing Zhuqiao and was the one who gave Adam his nickname. He was cast out of his family for being a 'disgrace' after he was discovered to be the wielder of the dragon spirits.

Baihu Baifeng (白風 白虎, Shirakaze Byakko)

Voiced by: Satomi Arai (Japanese); Kate Higgins (English)

One of the members of the "Four Sacred Beast Gods", she summons her guardian spirit in the form of giant tiger named Hong Mei. She becomes friends with Remi. She is physically very weak and because of that only her connection with Hong Mei is keeping her alive, which results in Hong Mei being extremely protective of her. However, since Hong Mei is the size of a 'guardian god' now he can not leave the house, which limits Baihu's movements as well. It was later realized that Baihu could use Qinglong's dragons to travel, however.

Xuanwu Heilei (黒雷 玄武, Kuroikazuchi Genbu)

Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki (Japanese); Crispin Freeman (English)

One of the members of the "Four Sacred Beast Gods", he is capable of summoning a large black turtle called Heike. He tends to have a laid back personality, but can be serious when he wants to. He seems to be privy to Zhuqiao's secrets and tends to act in the shadows, and takes his time on when on missions. Heike doesn't like the House too much, saying it's much too crowded with all the other Beasts there.

Familiars

Regulus (レグルス, Regurusu)

Voiced by: Hiroshi Tsuchida (Japanese); Doug Erholtz (English)

Regulus is the living sword spirit, rumored to have sway over anything regardless of shape or form. It is said that whoever possess Regulus will meet a tragic end. The spirit can transform into a lion and can communicate in human language. Regulus sometimes sits on Adam's arm and likes to pick and eat dropped food, as well as Lily, which Adam has scolded him for. However, when in his true form or angry, Regulus becomes a blood-thirsty monster, resembling that of a lion. He is also very obedient to Adam. Whenever Regulus is out, he has a tendency to accidentally crash into nearby barriers and break them. Although Regulus is often somewhat klutzy, it has been shown to have a serious, and more aggressive side to it, morphing into a gigantic lion form when overprotective of Adam. It is sometimes shown to be watching Adam from a distance and has the ability to summon rain.

Flare (フレア, Furea)

Voiced by: Susumu Chiba (Japanese); Steve Staley (English)

A villager from Flame River. Who encounters Sage During his investigation on the Beast Hall, to where they're attacked by Barry, to save Sage, Flare asks Sage to Element Merge with him. Sage accepts his offer and Element Merges for the first time and defeats Barry. Flare is hot-blooded, rash, reckless and impulsive and sometimes fights with Max, who believes his water element can beat his fire element.

Arthur (アーサー, Āsā)

Voiced by: Taiki Matsuno (Japanese); Benjamin Diskin (English)

A Thunder Angel from the Storm Sky and Lightning Knight. He has an interest in Ralph's skills and often Element Merges with him, out of love, he meets him at Apple Forest, element merges with him and begins seeing Ralph as a plaything. Arthur is polite, narcissistic and gentle, and loves Ralph's swordsmanship.

Max (マックス, makkusu)

Voiced by: Miyu Irino (Japanese); Yuri Lowenthal (English)

The demon prince that saved Louise from death after the destruction of her village and almost be killed by Yaldabaoth, giving her his heart so that she could live. He has a rivalry wth Flare.

Licht (リヒト, Rihito)

Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara (Japanese); Dorothy Fahn (English)

The light spirit that saved Walter from death at the cost of her voice and always accompanies him making everywhere around him cold, even during summer. She refers to Adam as her only true friend and constantly wards off other women Walter gets close to with her powers.

Abby (アービー, Ābī)

Leil's late pet bird who hands down his bird's eye to him.

Weiss (ヴアイス, Vuaisu)

Voiced by: Yasunori Masutani (Japanese); David Vincent (English)

A Swan who saved Soran from death. He is eventually revealed as Soran's biological father. He gave half of his life to Soran, and as a result died due to using his remaining powers.

Bianco (ビアンコ, Bianko)

Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio (Japanese); Derek Stephen Prince (English)

Weiss's twin brother who only reluctantly accepted Soran's presence at first. He then retrieves Soran and tells him of Weiss's fate. After awakening Soran's powers by giving half of his life to the boy, he dies at Yaldabaoth's hands and becomes a lifeless vessel for his plans.

Blanc (ブラン, Buran)

Voiced by: Yuuichi Nakamura (Japanese); Kyle Hebert (English)

A fox-like beast and a close friend of Weiss and Bianco, who becomes Soran's aide after they both die. After staying at Proust, he takes a liking to Onsen.

Kusanagi (草薙, kusanagi)

Voiced by: Misato Fukuen (Japanese); Deborah Sale Butler (English)

Yoshimitsu's pet gecko given to Sanaka as a gift. She loves Sanaka as her companion. She bright, cheerful and carefree.

Freiheit (フライハイト, Furaihaito)

Voiced by: Kouji Yusa (Japanese); Brian Beacock (English)

A ancient spirit who fought Yaldabaoth in the past, but was defeated and sealed in a rifle, which was found by Fezarl. He remained sealed until Yaldabaoth attacks Dark Forest, finally being freed from the rifle he was trapped in. Freiheit is very quiet, stoic and blunt, but has a warm, kind and noble heart.

Corvo (コルボ, Korubo)

Voiced by: Hiroyuki Yoshino (Japanese); Spike Spencer (English)

A crow from Shadow Kingdom and the 17th prince of the kingdom. He and his older sister Corvia were part of the royal family. During the Shadow Moon Ceremony, Corvia is killed by Billy, Sparking a hatred towards him in Corvo. He has deep respect for Geist, making him a honorary knight of the kingdom. They attempted to Element Merge, but failed due to their hostility towards each other. They succeeded in Element Merging together thanks to the spirits of Corvia, Lilac and Alva. Corvus is an egotistical and charismatic prince and can be provoked if people like Sanaka and Walter call him ""Prince Corvo"".

Quon (久遠, Kuon)

Voiced by: Daisuke Ono (Japanese); Keith Silverstein (English)

A Young pickpocket living in the town of Terracotta. He steals money from people at the shops to give it to the refugees who're hungry and thirsty, he tries to steal Adam's money when he and the element holders arrive at Terracotta, but is stopped by Fang. Quon conspires with Yaldabaoth to help him Element Merge with Fang and control him as Yaldabaoth's servant. He kidnaps Remi to force the element holder to save her at Gaias Temple, setting up a trap to lure Fang. He follows with Yaldabaoth's plan by Element Merging with Fang and taking the young man's body under his control, and becomes his servant; He is betrayed by Yaldabaoth who was using him to accomplish his goals. He atones for his sins by stopping the berserk Regulus from destroying Terracotta, calming him down and saving Adam from death. He becomes Fang's new Element partner after he joins the group. Quon is steadfast, smart and calm, when things go wild, he goes crazy, rash and brutal, he even looks up to Fang as a older brother figure.

Qinglong's identical dragons who serve as his maids. They can shapeshift into humans but remain the same size.

Hong Mei (紅美, Kumi)

Baihu's tiger who is overprotective of her to the point that Baihu obeys her.

Heike (黒殻, Kurokaku)

• Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama (Japanese); Dan Woren (English)

Xuanwu's Tortoise who can change size. He is infatuated with Xuanwu and sometimes feels neglected with the other familiars around him.

Antagonists

Yaldabaoth (ヤルダバオト, Yarudabaoto)

Voiced by: Yumiko Kobayashi (Japanese); Laura Bailey (English)

Known as Fang's Shadow and said to be the other half of Fang's soul, not much is known about him other than the fact that he appears to be rather malicious and unpredictable and that he was given a body by Astraea. He appears to possess Fang's missing childhood memories, a fact which he likes to remind Adam of. He was the one who killed Louise and took her heart and received a slash to his left eye in return. He also possesses the Sefirot sword, which is the sibling sword of Louise's Riptide sword, and claims in chapter 17 that both swords were meant to be his, and that it was Louise's parents who had destroyed his village. He seems infatuated with Adam, even stating at one point that he would come for him, but that it was not yet time because the owners of the elements were not yet 'gathered'. This is supported by the fact that he took Fram's left eye after finding out that Adam liked her eyes, as well as the fact that he's been keeping tabs on Adam's life. Yaldabaoth has the same face as Fang, and dresses in a white shirt, light pants, and a green cloak. He has white hair and heterochromia, one blue one gold. He once lost his left eye so he stole that of Fram in exchange for cursing her life.

Yggdrasil (イグドラシル, Igudorashiru)

Voiced by: Nana Mizuki (Japanese); Carrie Savage (English)

According to legend, Yggdrasil was a princess who attempted to enter Nova with her two sons. The younger one left to join the government and was killed. Afterwards, her elder son committed suicide upon learning of his younger brother's demise. She was also the model Leil's adopted father hired for one of his larger statue, recognized by Adam as the woman who once "killed" him. She reappears in chapter 25, under the disguise of a maiden, and working with Yaldabaoth to gather all twelve element in order to bring her sons back. She is last seen escaping after rRegulus goes on rampage and she is absorbed by Yaldabaoth to become whole.

Zhongzhu (鐘朮, Shoujutsu)

The secretary of war of the Church and Zhuqiao's master. He cares about children of humans and Four Sacred Beast Gods. He also has a crush on Shenyun, to where he calls her beautiful. It is later revealed that he is working for Yaldabaoth, who thinks that he is a symbol of divinity. He is killed by Zhuqiao for his betrayal.

Shenyun (申雲, Shin'un)

• Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese); Philece Sampler (English)

Zhongzhu's right hand woman and Qinglong's master. She looks after the children of human and takes care of them as a mother. She also has a crush on Zhongzhu, to where she call him handsome. It is later revealed that she is working for Yaldabaoth, who thinks that he is a symbol of admiration. She is killed by Qinglong for her betrayal.

Billy The Bounty (ビリ・ザ・バアンツ, Biri Za Bānti)

Voiced by: Ryotaro Okiayu (Japanese); Travis Willingham (English)

A bounty hunter best known for his killing of 79 people and his sharpshooting skill. He is hired by Yaldabaoth to help him gain the power of destruction, who believes he is a leader who'll guide them all. He Assassinates Corvo's Older Sister Corvia during the Shadow Moon Ceremony at Shadow Kingdom, arousing an intense hatred in the prince. He tries to kill Corvo to gain money, however, Geist arrives to save him from death. Billy, in retaliation, attacks and fatally injures Lilac and Alva, enraging Geist, he leaves Abyss Mountain. When the element holder arrive at The Time of Darkness, Billy stops them from going after Yaldabaoth, fighting with all of his firearms to defeat them; he almost kills Adam, But was killed by Geist and Corvo, Avenging Corvia, Lilac and Alva's deaths

Professor Barack (プロデイサー・バラク, Purofeisā Baraku)

Voiced by: Mitsuru Miyamoto (Japanese); Michael Sorich (English)

A mad scientist who went insane after the deaths of his wife and two daughters. He follows Yaldabaoth loyally, who imagines him as a liberator to save them from threat of retaliation. He uses humans as test subjects for illegal experiments by modifying their bodies; he controls them through a device that obeys his commands. He abducts Remi to turn her into an energy source for Yaldabaoth's World-destroying Cannon, believing it could change the world. He fights the element holders to stop them from taking Remi, he nearly overpowers them until Remi's Restoration Element awakens and overloads the World-destroying Cannon, the explosion kills Barack instantly.

Barry (バーリ, Bāri)

A psychotic knight who attempts to kill Sage, because he believes that Sage's demon form is a threat to humans. He is Qinglong's older brother and is killed by him in episode 4.

Remi Lunashine (レミ ルナシャイン, Remi Runashain)

Voiced by: Kaori Nazuka (Japanese); Karen Strassman (English)

A girl who survived the Bestial Village incident. She is like a sister to Adam and Fang. She always obsesses over making sure that everyone is fed properly, although she is not a very good cook. She is manipulative towards the boys, but deep down she cares about them. She states in chapter 9 that she wants to be a doctor so that she can help alleviate Adam's suffering as he cannot age. It is revealed that she is Walter Jackrow's long lost sister, Lu Jackrow (ルウ　ジャックロウ, Rū Jakkuro). She seems to have feelings for Qinglong. She is also not easily disturbed, as shown when she was kidnapped by Qinglong and remained unperturbed. In chapter 9, she starts attending an all-girls boarding school. It is revealed that she holds the Restoration (復) element, to where she becomes the target of Yaldabaoth's plans to destroy the world. She awakens her powers of restoration for the first time, when the energy from Yaldabaoth's World-destroying Cannon power her up. She can heal wounds with her singing, curing illnesses and healing other's wounds.

Petty (ペチ, Peti)

Voiced by: Kotono Mitsuishi (Japanese); Cindy Robinson (English)

A pink bird-like creature with a pocket that Adam found in chapter 1. When he becomes wet or eats too much, his size increases dramatically, making him useful in certain situations. Regulus constantly attempts to eat him, only to be scolded by Adam. He has been living in the Proust ever since Adam and Fang's arrival at the Imperial Capital. He got his name from Sage after he took an interest in the creature. He also has a habit of chewing on anything he considers edible, such as Heike's tails, only to be chided by either Ralph or Heike.

Arisa Honey (アリーサ　ハニ, Arīsa Hani)

Remi's best friend and roommate at school. She actually revealed to be the "guardian" who watches over the boarding school and whose real appearance is a half Cat and half Bee ("Catbee"). Her human form has yellow hair, tan colored skin, and pink eyes.

Erica Rose (エリカ ローズ, Erika Rōzu)

Known as "Erica the perfect" is a popular student at Remi's boarding school.

Kenta (健太)

Shino and Sousuke's rebellious neighbor who resides in the village part of town. He refers to Sosuke as "Bro-so".

Chudai (ゝ大)

• Voiced by: Binbin Takaoka (Japanese); Rob Mungle (English)

A monk who is obsessed with exterminating spirits. He is later revealed to be a father figure to Shinobu after saving him from Kagetsu.

Kohaku (琥珀)

• Voiced by: Junko Minagawa (Japanese); Molly Searcy (English)

A prostitute from the red light district who was raised as such as being taken away from her family. Ao grants her wish of extending her life at the cost of her left eye, which he wears, and in return gives her the ability to turn into a demon and devour others. She requests Shino to execute her to put an end to her suffering.

Kaho (佳穂)

A blind little girl who goes to school along with a few other children at the local church. She enjoys Shino reading books for her despite not being able to see.

Yanahime (弥奈姫)

• Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu (Japanese); Caitlynn French (English)

A miko who was cursed by Ao after being desperate to see the outside world. After Yana is freed from her, she attends the same boarding school as Hamaji.

Akihiko Narumura (成村 章彦, Narumura Akihiko)

One of Shinobu and Shino's classmates at Ikura Public School. Growing up as an only child of a working-class family, he lived with his physically ill mother Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese); Tiffany Grant (English) and his mentally stressed father Voiced by: Hajime Iijima (Japanese); Ian Sinclair (English). Wanting to help his mother, he went to the mountains to pick bellflowers for her. However, he fell from the mountains and died in the flowerfields. After he died, the bellflowers gave Akihiko half-life for his desire, which was that he wanted to give flowers to his mother and see her one last time.

Anime

The anime premiered on MBS on January 5, 2013.^[4] The series is directed by Mitsue Yamazaki, with Osamu Yamazaki as Chief Director.^[5] The anime has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks in North America and by Hanabee in Australia & New Zealand.^[6] The series had been obtained by Crunchyroll for online streaming in North America.^[7] Season 2 began airing on July 7, 2013. The opening theme song for the first season is called "God FATE" and is performed by Faylan, while the ending theme song is called "String of pain" and is sung by Tetsuya Kakihara. For the second season, the opening theme song is called "wonder fang" by Faylan, while the ending theme is called "Soai Calendula" (奏愛カレンデュラ) by Ceui.
