Haughton is a town in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,539 in 2020.[3] It is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area.

Geography
Haughton is located 15 miles (24 km) east of Bossier City and 17 miles (27 km) east of Shreveport. Interstate 20 touches the northwestern corner of the town, with access from Exit 33 (Elm Street).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.3 square miles (13.6 km2), all land.[4]
Climate
The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Haughton has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[5]
Demographics
2020 census
As of the 2020 census, Haughton had a population of 4,539. The median age was 32.9 years. 28.7% of residents were under the age of 18 and 12.0% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 91.0 males age 18 and over.[7][8]
0.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas.[9]
There were 1,716 households in Haughton, including 891 family households. Of all households, 42.6% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Married-couple households made up 49.0% of all households, while 17.4% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present and 26.6% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present. About 21.8% of households were made up of individuals, and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[7]
There were 1,863 housing units, of which 7.9% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.6% and the rental vacancy rate was 11.0%.[7]

Education
The community is in the Bossier Parish School District.[10]
Most of Haughton is zoned to Haughton Elementary School.[11] A portion of Haughton does not include, but is considered it, contains the collective boundary of T. L. Rodes Elementary School (Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 1), Platt Elementary School (grades 2-3), and Princeton Elementary School (grades 4-5).[12] All residents are assigned to Haughton Middle School and Haughton High School.[13][14]
