His Hero Is Gone was an American crust punk band from Memphis, Tennessee.[2] The band formed in 1995 from members of Copout, Man With Gun Lives Here, Union of Uranus and FaceDown.[3] They toured the United States extensively, as well as Europe[2] and Japan,[citation needed] and disbanded in 1999,[1] playing their last show in Memphis.[citation needed]

History
His Hero Is Gone released three studio albums, along with a demo tape and several EPs and split releases. Simultaneously or afterwards, band members played in the bands Deathreat, Severed Head of State, Call the Police, Dimlaia, Warcry, Union of Uranus, and more. Todd Burdette, Paul Burdette, and Yannick Lorrain went on to form the crust punk band Tragedy.[2]
The band's lyrics addressed political subjects including globalization, urban policing, cultural alienation, and corporate greed.[2] Writing for Decibel in 2019, Greg Pratt described Monuments to Thieves as "apocalyptic, grinding, d-beat-fueled crust and hardcore".[4] AllMusic's Paul Kott wrote that after the release of Fifteen Counts of Arson and extensive touring, the band "had become one of the world's leading political punk bands".[2] The band avoided conventional self-promotion; in an interview with HeartattaCk, members said they would not use computers even to produce the band's artwork or lyric sheets.[5]
