William III of Sicily was deposed in 1194 and was succeeded by his grandaunt Constance of Altaville, who nine years earlier had married Henry VI, son of Frederick Barbarossa. The Sicilian School was a literary-philosophical movement which first arose with the accession of William II in 1166 and reached its peak in the first half of the 13th century under Frederick II, himself the author of De arte venandi cum avibus, a treatise on falconry.
