Hollow Coves are an Australian indie folk duo, currently based in the Gold Coast, Queensland. The duo consists of vocalists and guitarists Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins. They have amassed over one billion global streams, with over 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.[1] Their 2021 single, "Blessings," has close to 17M views on YouTube,[2] and their 2021 single “Coastline” was certified gold in America, Australia and Canada.[3][4][5]

2014–2015

Henderson and Carins were introduced by a mutual friend in 2013; at the time, they had day jobs as a civil engineer and carpenter, respectively.[6] They wrote three songs together: "The Woods,” “Home,” and “Heatwave, uploading the tracks to SoundCloud in 2014.[7][8] In 2015, Louis Tomlinson of One Direction shared the music on Twitter.[9]

Following the songs’ early online pops on Spotify, SoundCloud and social media, Henderson left his job as a civil engineer and Carins left his work as a carpenter to pursue music full-time.[10][11][12]

2016–2018: Wanderlust

Hollow Coves released their debut EP, Wanderlust, in 2017 through Nettwerk. The release drew on travel experiences and reflections on landscapes from the duo’s earlier years. The single, "Coastline," won the 2018 Gold Coast Music Awards for Best Song and Hollow Coves won for Breakout Artist.[13]

"Coastline" was used in Shrinking's Episode 12 of Season 2, "The Last Thanksgiving" in 2024. [14][15] To date, "Coastline" has 464,865,451 streams on Spotify.[16]

In 2016, the single, "The Woods" made the Billboard charts after it was used in an episode of CBS' Scorpion.[17]

2018–2020: Moments

In 2019, Hollow Coves released their debut studio album, Moments. The album was recorded in Devon, England, with producer Chris Bond.[18]

Billboard Magazine noted Hollow Coves “stunning harmonies,”[19] Ones to Watch declared Moments “all-around uplifting, adventurous, atmospheric, vibey, and dynamic,”[20] and Clash Magazine said that Moments evokes “an atmospheric wanderlust to life.”[21] The Sunday Times named Hollow Coves a breakout act and described Moments as “songs that belong on the same shelf as Jackson Browne, Arcade Fire and early Ben Howard.”[22]

2021–2022: Blessings

As the COVID-19 pandemic continued, Carins and Henderson relocated to the Gold Coast and built a production studio to record their music.[8] They recorded the EP Blessings here.[23]

2023–present: Nothing to Lose

Their sophomore studio album Nothing to Lose was released In January 2024. It was produced by Matt Corby.[24]

In tandem with Nothing To Lose's release, Hollow Coves collaborated with National Park Foundation.[25] With every ticket sold, Hollow Coves donated one dollar to the National Park Foundation's mission to preserve nature.[26] They performed “On The Way” from the album on the Kelly Clarkson Show, taped at Zion Canyon Mesa in support of the NPF.[27]

They have been on tour with Tom Walker, The Paper Kites, Passenger, Vance Joy, and The Lumineers.[28][29] Hollow Coves have performed at numerous festivals such as SOMMO Fest 2025,[30] Open Air Gampel 2025,[31] Corona Capital Festival 2025, Lalala Festival 2024,[32] and Osheaga Festival 2023.[33]

In 2024, Hollow Coves won Artist of the Year and Release of the Year for Nothing To Lose in the Gold Coast Music Awards.[34]
