Holt United F.C. are a long running amateur football club based near Wimborne, in Dorset, England.
A fully accredited, they are affiliated to the Dorset County Football Association. The 1st Team play in the Dorset Premier League. The club also has a large youth section with a further fifteen teams from U8's upwards.
They are not to be confused with the Norfolk based club of the same name.
Holt United were formed in 1966 and spent their formative years playing in the Bournemouth League before switching to the Dorset League where they steadily climbed up through the divisions. [1]
In 1978, they were promoted to the Dorset Combination and soon settled, finishing runners-up in 1981. However, after this they frequently struggled and were relegated in 1996 after finishing bottom for the third successive season. [2]
After a spell of rebuilding, Holt returned in 2001 and this time were much better equipped as they finished fourth in their first season back. The following year, the competition was renamed as the Dorset Premier League and they were champions in 2006. The club remained regular title contenders and won the League Cup on three occasions.[3] However, a year later they were forced to withdraw after a disappointing campaign.
Fortunately, this was a just a temporary set-back as the following season saw Holt bounce back after wining the Dorset Senior League. 'The Bulls 'have since been champions twice more, in 2017 and 2023. They also twice won the Dorset FA Trophy; in 2018 after a 4-1 win against Westland Sports Reserves,[4] and again in 2024 after a 3-2 win over Blandford United.
In 2022, the club grew significantly after merging with local youth set-up Wimborne & Holt.[5] They have also made numerous ground improvements in order to progress further up the pyramid system should the opportunity arise. [6]
