Honai Station is served by the Shin'etsu Main Line[2] and is 100.0 km from the terminus of the line at Naoetsu Station.

The station consists of two ground-level opposed side platforms connected by a footbridge, serving two tracks.[1] The station is unstaffed.

History
Honai Station opened on 1 August 1949.[citation needed] With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR East.
