In July 2019, Carpenter released her fourth studio album, Singular: Act II.[1] In a June 2019 interview with Marie Claire, Carpenter revealed that she had already begun work on a fifth studio album, indicating her intention to continue evolving her musical style and exploring new themes.[2]
