Hope and Pain (Japanese: 希望と痛み, Hepburn: Kibō to Itami), also known as Downtown Heroes (Japanese: ダウンタウン・ヒーローズ, Hepburn: Dauntaun Hiirōzu), is a 1988 Japanese drama film directed by Yoji Yamada. It was Japan's submission to the 61st Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee.[2] It was also entered into the 39th Berlin International Film Festival.[3]
