Noble family in Savoy, France

The House of Candia was a noble family from Savoy (14th–16th).[1] It held a castle at Chambéry-Le-Vieux under the name "Château de Candie"[2], in Arpitan: Cândia.[3]

Giovanni Hororato de Candia, Knight, settled in Malta, in 1593 married Angelina von Hohenstaufen of the Kingdom of Sicily, and established a shipping merchant business that expanded to various ports in the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea, extending the family branch. Their son Luca de Candia married in 1617 at Cospicua to Aloisea Borg, with issue. [4]
Leonardo de Candia, Maritime and Admiralty Lawyer, married in 1649 at Valletta, Malta, Domenichella Watts, with issues, she was the granddaughter of William Watts, First English Consul in Malta[5], descendent of Thomas Watts of Buntingford., Hertfordshire, England, and Sir John Watts, Kt, (1554-1616), merchant, and Lord Mayor of London 1606-1607, Owner of Margaret and John ships in 1588, One of the Founders of East India Company 1601. This De Candia branch settled in Terra di Bari and London with issues.[6]
