Hsieh Shou-shing (traditional Chinese: 謝曉星; simplified Chinese: 谢晓星; pinyin: Xiè Xiǎoxīng; born 8 December 1950) is a Taiwanese nuclear engineer who served as minister of the Atomic Energy Council from 20 May 2016 to his removal from office on 11 January 2023.

Hsieh was born in Hsinchu on December 8, 1950.[1] He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in mechanical engineering from the Tatung Institute of Technology in 1973 and earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1978. He then completed graduate studies in the United States, where he earned a second master's degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in 1980 and a third master's degree and then his Ph.D. from Ohio State University (OSU) in 1981 and 1983, respectively, in mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering.[2]

As a graduate student at OSU, Hsieh was a research associate in its nuclear engineering program. His doctoral dissertation, completed under professor Richard N. Christensen, was titled, "A study of turbulent heat transfer on rough surfaces in a square duct with asymmetrical heating applicable to nuclear waste repository configurations".[1]
