The Hughes baronetcy, of East Bergholt in the County of Suffolk, was created in the Baronetage of Great Britain on 17 July 1773 for Richard Hughes,[2] a captain in the Royal Navy and Commissioner of Portsmouth Dockyard. The 2nd Baronet was an Admiral of the Red and was second-in-command under Lord Howe during the Relief of Gibraltar in 1782. He also served as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.[3]
