Taxonomic history
Eugène Simon established Hyetussa in 1902 for a species that he named Hyetussa cribrata. That name was preoccupied by Cerionesta cribrata Simon, 1901, a different species that was later transferred to Hyetussa. María Elena Galiano consequently introduced Hyetussa simoni as a replacement name in 1976; it is treated as the type species of the genus.[1]
A 2017 revision of the jumping-spider tribe Thiodinini placed Bredana and Micalula in synonymy with Hyetussa. Micalula had previously been introduced as a replacement for the preoccupied genus name Mica. The revision transferred Micalula longithorax, Bredana alternata, and Bredana complicata to Hyetussa and described two new Brazilian species, H. sergipe and H. tremembe.[2]
