The Institute of Aeronautical Trades (Institut des métiers de l'aéronautique, IMA) is a Moroccan vocational training institution specializing in occupations related to the aeronautics industry. Located in Nouaceur, it was established as part of Morocco's policy to develop its aeronautical sector.

The institute provides training for production and service roles in aeronautics, as well as upskilling and continuing training for employees in the sector.
History
The creation of the IMA dates back to 2008, as part of the Pacte national pour l'émergence industrielle, which identified aeronautics as one of the priority sectors of Moroccan industrialization.[1]
In 2009, a partnership agreement was signed to create the institute, involving several ministerial departments, the Groupement des industries marocaines aéronautiques et spatiales (GIMAS), the Union des industries et métiers de la métallurgie (UIMM), and the Agence française de développement. The same year, the public limited company IMA SA was established to manage the institution.[2][3]
The foundation stone of the centre was laid in 2010. The institute opened in 2011 and was inaugurated the same year by King Mohammed VI.
An extension was commissioned in 2017, increasing the institute’s capacity. In 2018, it expanded its training offer to new fields, including painting, welding, electronics, assembly fitting, and composite material repair.[4][5]
Missions
The main mission of the IMA is to adapt vocational training to the needs of the aeronautical industry established in Morocco. Its activities are organized around several areas:[6][7]
- initial qualifying training for employment;
- continuing training for employees;
- support for companies in skills development;
- preparation for certain regulated aeronautical maintenance professions.
Organisation
The IMA was established as part of a public–private partnership involving the Moroccan state and representatives of the aeronautical industry. Its management is ensured by IMA SA, a structure created for this purpose.
Within Morocco's aeronautical training ecosystem, the IMA operates alongside the Institut spécialisé dans les métiers de l'aéronautique et de la logistique aéroportuaire (ISMALA), an institution under the Office de la formation professionnelle et de la promotion du travail (OFPPT).[8]
The institute is located in Nouaceur, within the technopole and the zone associated with Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca.[8]
