Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology

The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (å½ç«ç ç©¶éçºæ³äººæµ·æ´ç ç©¶éçºæ©æ§, Kokuritsu-KenkyÅ«-Kaihatsu-HÅjin KaiyÅ KenkyÅ« Kaihatsu KikÅ; lit. "National Research and Development Legal Entity: Oceanic Research and Development Institute"), or JAMSTEC (æµ·æ´æ©æ§), is a Japanese national research institute for marine-earth science and technology.[2] It was founded as Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (æµ·æ´ç§å¦æè¡ã»ã³ã¿ã¼) in October 1971, and became an Independent Administrative Institution administered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in April 2004.[2]
