Jarl-Thure Eriksson

Eriksson studied electrical engineering at Helsinki University of Technology (TKK), specializing in superconductivity-based electromagnetic applications. In 1982, he completed his doctoral dissertation at TKK, focusing on the design principles of superconducting electric motors. He is known for developing the "SUMO" motor (1977–1979), a 100-kilowatt motor designed for ice-breaker propulsion.^[4]

In 1987, he was appointed a full professor at Tampere University of Technology. During his tenure as Rector, he focused on enhancing the university's scientific level and doctoral education.^[2] He has been a member of the Finnish Academy of Technology (TTA) since 1989 and the Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in Finland (STV) since 1997.^[5]

Eriksson also served on the Governing Board of the Millennium Prize Foundation and chaired the International Selection Committee for the Millennium Technology Prize in the 2010s.^[6]
