Jays (Boston Celtics)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jays are a duo of American basketball players, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, who play professionally for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They were both drafted by the Celtics with the third overall pick, in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Considered the best duo in the NBA,[1][2] Brown and Tatum are both NBA All-Stars.[3] They have led the Celtics to six Eastern Conference Finals,[a] two NBA Finals, and an NBA championship. Both players have been named the Eastern Conference Finals MVP, while Brown has also been named the NBA Finals MVP.[5][6]

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum both played one year in college. They were briefly together during Team USA camps, before joining the NBA.[7]

Meanwhile, by 2016, the Boston Celtics had been rebuilding for years, since the collapse of their "Big Three" in the 2012–13 season. Upon Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum being drafted third overall in back-to-back years, the Celtics were "almost instantly branded with the hopes of a franchise that was desperately chasing its elusive 18th championship".[8]
