Jeanne Margaret Boyd (February 25, 1890 – August 8, 1968) was an American pianist, composer, arranger, and music educator, based in Chicago.
Boyd was born in Mount Carroll, Illinois, and raised in Fremont, Nebraska,[1] the daughter of James P. W. Boyd and Jane Hughes Boyd (later known as Mrs. A. F. Plambeck).[2] She attended the Frances Shimer School,[3] and studied music with Emil Liebling, Lyravine Votaw, and Edgar A. Brazelton.[4][5]
Career
Boyd taught at the Frances Shimer School from 1909 to 1914, and at the Lyceum Arts Conservatory from 1914 to 1917.[4] In 1922 she spent two months in residence at the MacDowell Colony.[6] She taught at the Bush Conservatory of Music in the 1920s.[7][8][9] She also led workshops for piano accompanists.[10] Boyd gave recitals of her own works and those of other composers.[2][11] She was a member of the Society of American Musicians.[6] In the 1940s and 1950s she taught at the American Conservatory of Music.[12][13]
