Joanne Walker

Joanne Walker (born c.1971) is a former individual rhythmic gymnast who represented Great Britain and Scotland and is the only Scottish female gymnast to have won a medal at the Commonwealth Games.[2]

Biography
Walker was born in Paisley, Scotland but grew up in Otley, West Yorkshire.[1] At the age of 13 she moved to Beaconsfield and was a member of Cranford Rhythmic Gymnastics Club and then the Hillingdon School of Gymnastics.[3] Walker missed out on the 1990 Commonwealth Games because she did not live in Scotland.[1]
Walker represented the 1994 Scottish team[4] at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, where she competed in the rhythmic gymnastics programme.[5] Walker won a bronze medal in the hoop competition.[6][7]
After retiring from gymnastics, Walker moved to Namibia to become their national coach before settling in Noordhoek, Cape Town, South Africa, where she became a production manager in the film industry.[1] Her grandfather was footballer George Walker.[1]
