Joseph “Uncle Joe” Thum was an American champion bowler[3][4][5][6] that owned different bowling alleys in New York City starting in 1881 (the first of which was at 401 Greenwich Street, in the Tribeca West Historic District)[7] through the nineteenth and twentieth century.[8][9][10][11][12] He bowled to 1911.[13] Upon his death in 1937, he was regarded as being the “father” of the sport of bowling.[14][15]
