John Dragon Young (5 November 1949 – 5 November 1996) was a scholar of Chinese history and Hong Kong politician.

Young was born in Beijing to an academic family whose members have included Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang. After the Communists took over Beijing his family fled to Hong Kong where he received his primary and secondary education. He then went to the United States for his tertiary education, earning his B.A. at California State University at Hayward.[1]

He earned his Ph.D. at University of California at Davis in 1976,[2] his dissertation was later revised and published as 'Confucianism and Christianity: the First Encounter' (1983).
