Joseph Golombek Jr. (born 1965) is an American politician and educator who serves as the member of the Buffalo Common Council from the North District in Buffalo, New York. This district consists of the neighborhoods of Riverside, Black Rock and North Buffalo. He is also a lecturer at Buffalo State University.[1][2]
Golombek was born in Buffalo's Riverside neighborhood and graduated from Riverside High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Buffalo State College and a Master of Arts degree in European history from Marquette University.[1]
Career
Outside politics, Golombek has worked as a lecturer in the History and Social Studies Education department at Buffalo State University.[2]
Political career
Golombek defeated longtime North councilman Dale Zuchlewski in 1999 in a hotly-contested race.[3] In 2023, The Buffalo News described him as the council's longest-serving member.[4]
Golombek twice ran for the New York State Assembly from the 144th district. He lost Democratic primaries to incumbent Sam Hoyt in 2004 and 2010.[5][6]
In 2023, he defeated challenger Eve Shippens in the Democratic primary for his Common Council seat.[7][4]
As of 2026, Golombek chairs the Community Development and Preservation committees, and serves on the Budget, Claims, Legislation, MWBE, and Waterfront Development committees.[1]
