Juma Mussa Mkambala (born 1 September 1989), known professionally by his stage name Jux, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter.[1] His music is a blend of RnB, Bongo Flava, and Afrobeats. His songs include: Enjoy, NitasubirI, Fashion Killer, Sugua, Juu, and Nidhibiti. Jux has collaborated with African musicians, among them, Diamond Platnumz, Vanessa Mdee, Joh Makini, Zuchu, Gyakie, Bien, and Marioo.

Jux was born on 1 September 1989 in Dar es Salaam. His interest in music began in his teens when he started rapping.[2]

In 2008 Jux signed to Tanzanian record label A.M Records and began to record R&B songs instead. Since then, he has released several hit songs, including "Sugua" featuring Diamond Platnumz, "Juu" featuring Vanessa Mdee, and "Regina" featuring Otile Brown.[citation needed] In 2015, he received the Best R&B Song award at Kili Music Awards (also known as the Tanzania Music Awards). In 2017, he received the Best East African Music Video award at the Zanzibar International Film Festival.[3][unreliable source?]

In 2018 Jux was nominated for Best Male East Africa at the All Africa Music Awards.[4] His song "Uzuri Wako" was banned by the Tanzanian Communications Regulatory Authority, along with songs from several other artists, including Diamond Platnumz's, citing "immoral" as opposed to the 2005 Advertising Services (Content) Regulations.[5]

After numerous singles, Jux released his first album The Love Album in 2019, featuring tracks from several artists including Nigerian artist Singah, Diamond Platnumz, Nyashinski, Vanessa Mdee, G Nako, and Joh Makini.[6] In November 2022 He released his second album, King Of Hearts, featuring collaborations with Zuchu, Marioo, Mbosso, Terri, and Bien.[7] In 2023, he released "Enjoy", which became notable on TikTok.[8] The song had mixed reviews from critics who cited resemblance to Spyro's "Who Is Your Guy", hence the music was removed from YouTube because of "copyright claims".[9][10][11]

Personal life

Jux dated Tanzanian artist Vanessa Mdee for about six years. They released singles together, and in 2018 embarked on "In Love with Money" tour. They separated in 2019 because of infidelity after pictures of Mdee hugging American R&B artist Trey Songz was publicised online.[12][13]

Jux has since been linked to several socialites including Karen Bujulu, whom he confirmed he was dating in February 2023.[14]

In August 2024, Jux became engaged to Nigerian Priscilla Ojo, daughter of Iyabo Ojo. They married in April 2025.[15]

The African Boy Brand

Jux established a fashion brand in 2018. The brand is notable in East Africa.[16] He later announced that he would be expanding his brand into Kenya.[17]
