The company was founded in 1968 by Gunther Krippner. In 1970, Karl Kletzmaier joined the company. By 1984, its business areas included industrial, banking and sawmill automation. In 1990, Keba Deutschland GmbH was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary. In 1998, Keba US Corp. was founded. In 1999, Keba AG generated revenue of ATS 1 billion for the first time, primarily in the fields of industrial and banking automation. In the same year, the company's legal form was changed to a stock corporation. In 2003, the company moved into its new headquarters in Linz. In 2004, a branch was established in China, followed by two additional locations in China in 2005. In 2006, Keba Automation S.R.L. was opened in Romania. In the same year, the company also acquired a stake in agimatec GmbH.^[3]

In 2007, the CBPM-Keba joint venture was established in Beijing with the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation, the world's largest banknote printing company.^[4] In 2008, the branch in Taiwan was opened. In 2009, additional branches followed in Turkey, China and Italy. In the same year, the company entered the energy automation sector with electric vehicle charging stations. In 2010, the company expanded into heating control systems for alternative energy sources. Keba also opened a branch in Japan. In 2012, a branch was opened in South Korea. In 2013, Keba acquired a majority stake in the Dutch automation company Delem.^[5] In 2013, a second production site was opened in Linz, Austria.^[6] In 2016, Keba acquired a majority stake in Kemas, a specialist in handover machines based in Oberlungwitz, Germany.^[7] In 2018, KEBA established another branch in India.^[8]

At the end of 2018, Keba AG acquired LTI Motion and Heinz Fiege GmbH, providers of drive solutions and spindle technology based in Lahnau and Röllbach, Germany.^[9]

In 2026, the Keba Group established Keba Digital as a dedicated unit for digital solutions. It develops industrial AI applications that are offered independently of Keba hardware.^[1]
