KKJG (98.1 FM, "98.1 K-Jug") is a commercial radio station that is licensed to San Luis Obispo, California, and broadcasts to the San Luis Obispo County area. The station is owned by American General Media and airs a country music format. The KKJG studios and offices are located on Sacramento Road in San Luis Obispo, and its transmitter is off TV Tower Road in Santa Margarita.[2]

History

The station was first signed on January 1, 1984, as KKUS by Cabrillo Communications Inc.[3]

On May 1, 1992, Cabrillo sold KKUS to Westcoast Broadcasting Inc. for $800,000.[4] The new owner changed the station's call sign to KKJG on June 1 1992[5][6] and introduced a country music format branded "K-Jug".

In April 1997, Westcoast sold KKJG to American General Media for $1.5 million.[7]

Programming

Tom and Becky in the Morning, KKJG's morning program, is hosted weekdays by Tom Keffury and Becky Kingman, from 6 am to 10 am. Keffury is a longtime resident of San Luis Obispo County who arrived at KKJG in October 2005. In the 1990s, Keffury was a morning disc jockey at KDDB. Kingman graduated with a degree in journalism from Cal Poly in 2007 and has lived in San Luis Obispo County since the early 2000s.

Following the morning show, Andy Morris airs from 10 am to 3 pm on weekdays. Morris lives in Atascadero with his wife, having run a successful entertainment business for the last 30 years[8]. Pepper Daniels follows, airing from 3 pm to 7 pm on weekdays. Daniels first joined in 2003, now living in San Luis Obispo with his wife, pursuing several hobbies and his love for music and concerts[9]. From 7 pm to 12 am, you can find Mandy live on weekdays, and from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturdays. Mandy, a Southern Californian native, grew up listening to KJUG, developing a love for country music after her first concert at the Forum in 1996. Since first moving to Paso with her family in 1995, she started working with the KJUG promotions and on-air team, alongside studying for a degree in communications[10].

On Saturdays, from 3 pm to 7 pm, and Sundays, from noon to 6 pm, you will find Kurt Olson on air. Olson is a native Californian who has been airing full-time shifts at several different television and radio stations since the '80s[11]. You will find Real Life, Real Music on air from 7 pm. Real Life, Real Music features music from an award-winning radio show and podcast filmed in front of a live studio audience, from its home at The Dosey Doe, in the Woodlands, Texas[12]. Listeners are free to join the Saturday Night Alternative, where KJUG premieres "alternative" country music every Saturday from 8 pm to midnight. CMT Country Countdown USA, hosted by Lon Helton, airs on Sundays from 6 pm, preceded by Country Fastball, which airs at 10 pm[13].
