Kaputu Koho (Crow and Koel) (Sinhala: කපුටු කොහෝ), is a 2025 Sri Lankan Sinhalese musical drama film directed by Somaratne Dissanayake and produced by Renuka Balasuriya.[1][2] The film is an experimental venture that fusion of traditional Sri Lankan stage drama style and cinematic technology.[3][4] It stars Amandya Uthpali, Abhilashi Santhushki and Dilan Wickramasinghe with several child artists.[5] Popular singer Harshana Dissanayake also made his debut cinema acting with the film.[6]
Koel is a brood parasitic bird which lays eggs on the nest of crow. When the chicks are growing, the crows recognize that they are different and chase them away from the next. This storyline is focused in the film as a subtext of brotherhood, national unity and coexistence.[7] The film is full of folk music melodies and local dance patterns with a fusion of traditional stage drama style and cinematic techniques, including theatrical dialogues, singing and dancing.[5][3]
