Karayi Rajan

Karayi Rajan (born 1958) is an Indian politician serving as the member of the legislative assembly (MLA) for the Thalassery constituency in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.[1] A prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), he was elected in the 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, succeeding A. N. Shamseer.[2]

Early life and education
Karayi Rajan was born to Pokkan in Kadirur, near Thalassery, in the Kannur district of Kerala.[3] He attended Government LP School, Pulliod, where he completed his primary education (4th standard) in 1968.[4][5] He has been involved in political activities in the Kannur region since his youth.
Political career
Rajan is a veteran leader of the CPI(M) in Kannur and has previously served in various local government roles, including as a member of the Kannur District Panchayat and as the president of the Thalassery Block Panchayat.[5] His political career has been centered in the party's strongholds in northern Kerala.
In the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, he was nominated by the CPI(M) to contest from the Thalassery seat. He secured a decisive victory, polling 69,743 votes and defeating his nearest rival, Saju K. P. of the Indian National Congress, by a margin of 20,523 votes.[6][7]
