Kholmsky District (Russian: Хо́лмский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Kholmsky Urban Okrug.[3] It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,279 square kilometers (880 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Kholmsk.[1] Population (excluding the administrative center): 10,988 (2010 census);[2] 14,672 (2002 census);[5] 20,498 (1989 Soviet census).[6]
