Ramkalawan was born in Saint Louis district on Mahé island and raised in Bel Ombre.[1][2]
Ramkalawan worked in the Seychellois tourism industry, working at Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove hotel for over forty years before her retirement in 2019.[3]
Ramkalawan has been married to Wavel Ramkalawan for over forty years and together they have three sons: Samuel Ramkalawan, Caleb Ramkalawan and Amos Ramkalawan.[2][4] They were married on 4 May 1985.[5] When he was elected 5th President of Seychelles in 2020 she became First Lady.[6] Ramkalawan said that she "will seek to favour children and education" in the role.[4]
As First Lady of Seychelles, Ramkalawan launched The Hope Foundation and became its patron in November 2020.[7] She is also patron of the White Feather Fund, which supports orphans,[8] and has hosted receptions for retired Seychellois teachers.[9]
In 2021, she met with the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus of Seychelles.[10] In 2025, she addressed Judiciary staff at the Palais de Justice to celebrate International Women's Day.[11]
In 2023, Ramkalawan accompanied her husband on a state visit to the Maldives[12][13] and met with members of the Seychellois diaspora living in the United Kingdom.[14] In 2024, Ramkalawan accompanied her husband on a visit to the Vatican and Italy. In 2025, Ramkalawan accompanied her husband when they visited Cuba[15] and Ghana.[16][17]
