In January, the Board of Governors for Higher Education chose Carothers, 48, to be URI's 10th president. He will take over from Edward D. Eddy, who is retiring in July.

The Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education (RIBGHE) announced early this evening that it has selected Dr. David M. Dooley, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, as the new president of the University of Rhode Island (URI). Dr. Dooley will succeed Dr. Robert L. Carothers, who is stepping down on June 30th after 18 years as URI's president.
