List of tallest buildings in Canada

Canada's tallest buildings include many of the tallest structures in North America outside of the United States. Since 1975, the tallest completed building in Canada has been First Canadian Place in Toronto, which rises to a height of 298 m (978 ft). SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge, a supertall skyscraper under construction in Toronto, is expected to become Canada's tallest building upon its planned completion in 2026. While not a habitable building, the tallest free-standing structure in Canada is Toronto's CN Tower, which is 553.3 m (1,815 ft) tall. As Canada's largest city, Toronto is home to many of Canada's tallest buildings, including its six tallest. The tallest building in Canada outside of Toronto is Stantec Tower in Edmonton, which has a height of 249 m (817 ft).

Most of Canada's tallest buildings are located in the metropolitan areas of Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, including all but one of the 100 of the buildings in this page. The exception is Hilton Niagara Falls Tower 2, the tallest building in Niagara Falls. In the Greater Toronto Area, skyscrapers surpassing a height of 180 m (590 ft) have been built in Mississauga and Vaughan since the 2010s. In Greater Vancouver, the city of Burnaby is home to several skyscrapers taller than Living Shangri-La, the tallest building in the city of Vancouver itself, due to Vancouver's height restriction laws. Ottawa, Canada's capital, does not make an appearance on this list due to its relatively stringent height restriction laws.

Five of Canada's ten largest cities enforce height restriction laws to varying degrees. In Ottawa, skyscrapers could not be built above the height of the Peace Tower until the late 1970s, when the restriction was changed so that no building could overwhelm the skyline.[1] In Montreal, skyscrapers cannot be built above 200 m (656 ft) of height nor the elevation of Mount Royal.[2] The City of Vancouver has enacted "view corridors" which limit the height of buildings in most areas of downtown.[3] Edmonton had an elevation restriction, approximately 150 m (492 ft) above downtown, due to the proximity of the city centre airport, until it closed in November 2013.[4][5] Buildings in Calgary must not cast shadows on the Bow River between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on the equinox, to maintain sunlit summer hours.[6]

The “Year” column indicates the year of completion. Buildings tied in height are sorted by year of completion with earlier buildings ranked first, and then alphabetically. This list does not include towers, including the CN Tower in Toronto, as they are not habitable buildings.
