Lorenz Metz (born March 7, 1997) is a German professional American football offensive tackle for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Cincinnati Bearcats and previously played for the Chicago Bears and New York Giants before joining the Buccaneers as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program.[4]

Metz was born in Neuötting in Bavaria, Germany. He did not begin playing American football until he was 18 and previously worked as a chemical technician in Germany.[5][6] Before moving to the United States, he played for the Kirchdorf Wildcats in the German Football League.[7]

College career

Metz moved to the offensive line at Cincinnati, where he appeared in 43 games with 27 starts between 2018 and 2022, playing both tackle and guard.[8] He started all 13 games in 2019 at tackle,[9] played in eight games in 2020, and in 2021 made eight starts at right guard, earning first-team All-AAC honors on an offensive line that helped Cincinnati average 6.7 yards per play.[10][11] His final college season in 2022 was limited to five games due to injury.[12]
