Gameplay

The player explores ethereal and liminal procedurally generated 3D voxel environments, collecting resources, fighting monsters and taming creatures.[3] A major mechanic is "apotheosis", a crafting system which allows the player to combine materials in a certain order to get a new item or tool.[4][5] Alfaro describes the gameplay as "an entirely new way to experience your subconscious".[6]

Development

The game originally started as a test project for Godot, but evolved into its own unique idea.[7] Many sprites are derived from photos of junk around Alfaro's house and items from a dollar store.[6]

Reception

Lucid Blocks was received warmly with "overwhelmingly positive" reviews on Steam.[7] Some reviewers noted that the game contains elements of horror.[8] The game has been widely compared to Minecraft.[2][4][5]
