Major incorporated as a village on September 29, 1914.[5]

In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Major had a population of 35 living in 21 of its 24 total private dwellings, a change of 0% from its 2016 population of 35. With a land area of 2.6 square kilometres (1.0 sq mi), it had a population density of 13.5/km2 (34.9/sq mi) in 2021.[8]
