Mario de Larraechea

He was born on 15 July 1894 in Chillán, Chile, the son of Juan de Larraechea Gerricoechavarría and Cecilia Herrera Vega. He married María Teresa Pagueguy Cisternas, and they had six children.^[1]

He completed his secondary studies at the Liceo de Aplicación in Santiago, Chile and the Liceo of Chillán, Chile. He studied law at the University of Chile, graduating in 1916 with the thesis De las lesiones ante nuestra legislación penal.^[1]

Professionally, he worked at the Intendencia of Ñuble between 1918 and 1921 and practiced law in Chillán until 1930. He also served as manager of the newspaper El Día of Chillán. After his diplomatic service, he worked as a lawyer at the Contraloría General de la República until 1948 and later as fiscal de cuentas until 1951.^[1]

A member of the Liberal Party, he was elected deputy for the 1926–1930 legislative period, representing the 15th Departamental Circumscription (San Carlos, Chillán, Bulnes y Yungay). During his term he served on the Permanent Commission of Constitutional Reform and Rules.^[1]

In 1931 he was appointed Intendente of Ñuble and subsequently served as Consul of Chile in Belgium between 1931 and 1935.^[1]
