Mary Augusta Kennedy

Mary was born on December 6, 1857 in Winthrop, Massachusetts to Margaret "Martha" Hickey (née Field) and James Hickey.^[1] His father was a saloon keeper from Brockton, Massachusetts, who later became a contractor.^[2][3] And her mother was born in a tenant farm.^[4] Her sister was the mayor of Brockton.^[5] Both of her parents were immigrants from County Cork, Ireland.^[6][7][8] She was active in women's suffrage in the United States.^[9]

In 1887, she married P. J. Kennedy where they had 4 children,^[10][11] including Joseph Sr. in 1888.^[12][13] She died on May 20, 1923 in Boston, and was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Massachusetts.^[14]
