Background
When Spiro watched an early cut of The Devil Wears Prada 2 after being approached about its soundtrack, she initially felt that her typically melancholy musical style did not align with the film's bubbly tone. Inspired by the film's themes, Spiro wrote "Material Lover", a song reflecting on the decline of physical media and tangible objects in the digital age, which also resonated with her preference for creating music with live instruments rather than computers or artificial intelligence.[2]
Critical reception
Music video
The music video, co-directed by Spiro and Ivy Tellin, was filmed at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.[3]
