He is a member of the Democratic Party and he was elected member of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy in 2013. He served as president of the Province of Prato from 2014 to 2018 and has served as mayor of Prato from May 2014 to 2019 for the first term, and from 2019 to 2024 for the second term.[1][2][3][4]

In 2025, Biffoni was elected to the Regional Council of Tuscany.[5]
